Determine Storage Plan
The first step is to find the best place to store the motorcycle. If possible, keep it inside so it is not exposed to extreme temperatures. It needs to be out of the way so it doesn't get knocked over. Ideally, a motorcycle should be stored away from any chemical fumes which will cause degradation. Once you select your location, you can start the preparation steps.
Take a Final Ride
Take the motorcycle out and enjoy a final ride. At the end of the ride, fill the tank with gas and add a gas stabilizer. The gas stabilizer will prevent evaporation of compounds in the gas. Make sure you run the motorcycle for at least five minutes after you add the gas stabilizer so it is able to get into the entire fuel system.
Change the Oil
Complete an oil and filter change before putting the bike in storage. Follow the directions in your owner's manual, which will provide the type and amount of oil needed.

If you have a center stand or bike stand, you will want to store your motorcycle on the stand. But it’s okay if you don't have a safe way to get the tires off the ground. Consider checking the tires every month to verify that the pressure is at the proper level. It is also recommended that you move the bike slightly each month so it is not resting on the same part of the tires the entire time it is in storage.
Remove Battery
Since your motorcycle will not be using the battery while in storage, it is best to remove it. Once it is removed, you can put it somewhere that won't experience freezing temperatures. Cycling between freezing and thawing is not good for the battery. Keep it charged while in storage.
